A coffee mug sleeve
Sat comfortably on
The opposite subway seat
Its manufacturer had labeled it well
“eco-friendly & recyclable”
But looked like
The coffee drinker’s divine maker
Had forgotten to input
A basic conscience in its masterpiece
“Dispose of your trash appropriately
Before you leave”
About the Poem
I was commuting on an NYC subway train observing a coffee cup sleeve left behind on the opposite seat when I read the news on the accumulation of trash on beaches and public places!
