Goodbye Disney World

I won’t be visiting Florida soon,
not even taking my kids to Disney World
Too conservative for my tastes
A governor who breaks hospital records
for the most covid positivity rates

I’ll miss the beaches
The restaurants in Miami,
and the wild parties
But the politics are suffocating
my liberal sensibilities,
my sensitivity, my compassion
for the human race

I want to visit a place
where people are safe,
where they care if you live or die
and there’s plenty of hospital beds
for those who need them

I want to visit a state
where the politics are fair,
where science is appreciated,
anti-vaxxers are few and far between,
and I’m not the only one
to wear a mask.

About the Poem

My disappointment with the politics of the state of Florida.

  1. I couldn’t agree more, I’m a Floridian and disgusted with the governor who is a greedy con man politicizing death, even the lives of our children. My advice to all is stay out of Florida.

  2. Oh Mark that’s easy. Visit the land of the Houyhnhnms, a race of talking horses who are the rulers and where the deformed creatures that resemble human beings are called Yahoos.

Great poem that says what most people want… well, a little more than half of the people in the US… soon it will be most people as the fanatics get raptured to death by Covid because they – the Yahoos – refuse to get vaccinated.

BTW, Mark, how does one interact with poems on this platform? Other than leaving comments. Are there claps or similar?
